My home is situated in the heart of Durham County’s once heavily industrialised mining community where in the nineteenth century and indeed through to the early twentieth century the male members of the vast majority of household’s worked or had worked in coal mining.

I have lived in the County now for over 60 years. During that time I have either worked or visited many of the towns and villages. I am therefore very familiar with the many landmarks, sites and history of County Durham.

I have been researching my own family tree for a number of years and probably like yourself find it very absorbing and an excellent hobby.
I am now at a sticking point in my own family history and have turned to helping friends and work colleagues in their search. It was during this time that I found the need for information from outside this county but was faced with having to pay for a professional search and at a cost that I could not afford. This gave me the idea of this website.
I DO NOT CHARGE PROFESSIONAL FEES I do my research as a hobby and would like to help where I can, all I will ask for is a donation to help cover the cost of my petrol and any certificates/photocopies.I will always discuss this before commencing any research.

My own research has been centred on Darlington and nearby towns and villages from where my ancestors originate.
I am a regular visitor to Durham Records Office where I have access to Parish Records and census returns for all of the County’s many towns and villages. I also regularly call in to Darlington Library which also holds many parish records, burial/cemetery records and census returns for the surrounding area. Here held on film are also copies of the local newspaper the Northern Echo dating back to the mid 1800’s.

I have recently extended my search area to cover the majority of North Yorks this helps particularly where families have hopped from one county to another in search of work.
These records are held at Northallerton within easy reach of my home.

I am willing to provide photographs of Churches, villages and houses, in fact anything you request to enhance your search.

Any request will be undertaken no matter how small.

Please go to my CONTACT page for details of my E Mail address and requirements for a search.
